Jonathan was born and raised in the small Southern Illinois town of Benton, IL.  Growing up, the idea of working in the film industry was as likely as him one day living on Mars.  All that changed when he met John Malkovich, a fellow Bentonian, who had returned home to spend time with his family.  Seeing what Mr. Malkovich was able to accomplish, opened Jonathan’s eyes to the possibilities of a much bigger world.

Moving to Chicago after graduating from Illinois State, Jonathan directed his first play, “Ten November”.   With a cast of eleven men, three female singers and a full live band on stage…Jonathan’s first directorial experience was a true test by fire.  Too naïve or too stupid to know that it was too big a project…he not only accomplished it but succeeded in making it one heck of a show.  What he loved about the experience was the ability to work with and draw on the talents of so many great friends.  (A practice that he continues to follow to this day.  Actors & crew from that first staged production, over a decade ago, continue to star in and work on several of his short films today.)

In 2001, Jonathan and his wife/partner/co-founder of Screaming Frog/best friend moved from Chicago to Los Angeles.  Once they were settled in LA, they made the decision to transition from traditional staged pieces to filmmaking.  Jonathan fell in love with film.

To keep himself sharp and because he will never leave his love for live performances, Jonathan continues to write and perform around many of LA’s top improv & comedy theatres.  And to keep his heart rate up and to keep himself humble he also performs stand up and any venue that will have him.  (He has performed at The Improv, The Ice House, The Comedy Store and just about every coffee shop and thrift store that has a mic and a wall.)

Jonathan feels really blessed to be doing what he loves with people that he absolutely adores.

Any success that his projects find must be equally shared with the amazing gaggle of talented artists that he surrounds himself with on every endeavor.
